DR. LEONARD LANGELIERS
Leonard L. Langeliers, O.D. was a model student and athlete, while also serving
our country. Dr. Langeliers graduated from Sisters High School in 1957 after
starring in the classroom and on the athletic fields. He was a student
representative his freshman and junior years, and was student class president
his senior, while also becoming a member of the Honor Society. He was a varsity
letter winner all four years on the football field as a running back (elected as co-
captain his senior year and leading the team with upwards of 12 yards per carry).
On the track, he held the SHS records in the 100 yard dash, and in the high and
low hurdles, and going to the state championships in 1957. That season, he went
undefeated in the low hurdles and won the state championship, while also
placing 4
th
as a member of the 880 relay team. On the baseball field, he lettered
four years playing outfield and first base, and was on the 1956 team that was
runner-up in the state title game. After high school, Dr. Langeliers attended
Pacific University and then served in the United State Army for 22 years, reaching
the title of Lt. Colonel. Dr. Langeliers later became an optometrist with an office
in Sisters and then Bend, Oregon. In his “spare” time, he played senior softball
for 25 years.
