MARY FLANDE
Teacher, Coach, Administrator, Athletic Director Mary Flande did it all within
the Sisters School District from 1992 through 2012. At various times, Mary served
as head golf coach (1994 2011), head volleyball coach (1992 1996), head
basketball coach (1992 1995) and assistant track coach (1992 1993). She
achieved numerous accolades during this time, including OSAA Oregon Girls Golf
Coach of the Year (2007 and 2008), OSAA State Girls Golf Champions Coach
(2007 and 2008), Oregon and National Girls Golf Coach of the Year (2002), and
Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year (1994 and 1995). During this time, Mary
also was instrumental in the development of the renewed Sisters High School when
it opened its doors after a 25-year absence. She served as the Sisters High School
Athletic Director and PE teacher from 1994 - 2012 (with the first few years
including grades 7 12), helping to create and build the foundation for Sisters
athletics and co-curricular activities. Mary’s involvement also included involvement
with the creation of numerous Sisters School District mainstays she was
instrumental in the organization and creation of the annual Sisters Varsity
Volleyball Tournament, was on the ground floor of hosting the annual Rotary Track
meet, and helped to establish the annual holiday basketball tournaments for
students around the state. She was involved with a multitude of standing and ad
committees throughout the state, helping to put the Sisters School District on the
map. Mary Flande set the standard for “being an Outlaw.”
