1999 SISTERS HIGH SCHOOL
FOOTBALL TEAM
The Sisters High School Fall 1999 3A State Championship Football Team was
destined to become state champion. The team not only represented the school
and community in a very positive way, the players and coaches firmly entrenched
the Sisters football program as an Oregon powerhouse. SHS had won the state
championship during fall 1998, and had the ominous challenge to repeat the
following fall. During its undefeated fall 1999 championship run, the team took out
two future NFL quarterbacks - beating Scappoose High School in a very
competitive game (33-27) and then rolling over Burns in the final (35-6). When the
dust settled, this team featured ten 1
st
team All-State players (three both
offensively and defensively), the coach of the year in Bob Macauley, the defensive
player of the year in Eli Pyke, and the offensive player of the year in Dusty
Macauley. The team was filled with experience and athleticism. All of the first
team all-state players were seniors among a senior-laden team. Their work ethic
and commitment to excellence was matched only by their true love of the game
and the will to win, capturing the entire community’s support – the team and the
town were both “lights out” on game day. This team served as an inspiration for
future Sisters’ football teams and players.
