SISTERS FAMILY ACCESS NETWORK
Sisters Family Access Network (Special Contributor). Family Advocates – Lifesavers.
The Sisters Family Access Network is part of the Family Access Network of central
Oregon and improves lives to ensure that children have access to basic need services.
Sisters FAN has provided assistance, support, and advocacy for families in the Sisters
School District (Elementary, Middle and High Schools) since January 1996. Working
through one dedicated FAN advocate, a child or parent is connected to essential
services such as food, shelter, heating, health care, clothing, and more. FAN
advocates link children and families to critical basic need services with the goal of
keeping children healthy and in school by, among other things, helping them navigate
the social services systems in Deschutes County. FAN also provides a direct and
convenient way within the school to connect children to vital resources. Among its
many support services, FAN provides an emergency access fund, has designed funds
for after school activities, and provides school supplies and basic supplies and school
resources. FAN advocates support our most needy families, removing barriers, and
paving the way for a child’s success. FAN advocates in central Oregon improve the
lives of nearly 10,000 children and family members each year. Sisters FAN primarily
has been led by the extraordinary efforts of family advocates Theresa Slavkovsky (26
years, right) and Dawn Cooper (16 years, left). Theresa, Dawn, and the many Sisters
Fan advocates have helped meet FAN’s vision – A community where children
flourish and families thrive.
